Kudos to Parents and Staff

I want to thank our KMS staff for all of their work over the past few days putting together a meaningful, relevant online curriculum for our students.  It has been inspiring and exciting to watch the collaboration between our teachers as they work to put their programs together.  I have said it repeatedly, KMS has the best staff in Montana!  I would also like to thank our parents for their continued patience ??.  These are unchartered waters for many of us and I know our staff and parents are striving to make all of this work.

Starting today, we are giving our staff the option to work remotely from home for the duration of the school closure.  We will maintain a "skeleton" crew here at KMS and will endeavor to provide timely and prompt responses to our students and families. Students will be tasked with managing their assignments and due dates from home and will be held accountable for those during the school closure.  This is a great opportunity for parents to engage with your children.  Check in with them daily to offer support and ensure they are keeping up with each class. I would encourage you to use the strategy, "Trust, but verify." Ask your children if they are getting their work done, and then verify that they are completing work.

We are asking staff to be responsive to email communication and to also keep their gradebooks up to date.  Please check PowerSchool often to access your child's progress. If your child is struggling with anything, please reach out to the teacher via email - they are there to help. It is understandable that our staff will not be giving out personal cell phone numbers to students. If you need to speak directly with a staff member, please let them know this via email. Many of our staff are being trained to use applications like ScreenCastify, Google Hangouts Meet, EdPuzzle, and other online video conferencing platforms that will allow them to have direct contact with students.

The number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students and the community, as well continued academic progress and success.  We also know that it won't be perfect and ask for your grace and latitude. If you have thoughts, ideas or suggestions that we may use to help support you or your child please don't hesitate to email or call me.

KMS Homework Packet Process

If in the event, schools remain closed after spring break.  For those students without or limited internet access, KMS will be providing weekly packets of instruction.  These packets contain similar work-related content that students are receiving online.  Packet printing is limited due to costs, packets are designed for those students who have no or limited internet access.  This is the packet pick up and drop off process we will use.

  • Team packets of homework will be developed and printed on a weekly basis.
  • Due to building restrictions, students and parents will be able to pick up and drop off their packets every Monday between the hours of 8 am – 11 am.
  • Packet pick up and drop off will occur at the front bus loop doors and commons area.
  • Students and parents are asked to please pick up their packets Monday morning.  Upon completion of that week’s work, those packets will be returned on the following Monday and a new packet of instruction will be available for pick up.
  • The school will develop a system to return the completed work to the teachers.

The first day for packet pick up will be Monday, March 30th if we continue to be out of school.

Attention 6th graders READ 2 RIDE EXTENDED

Due to school closures around the region, we are extending our reading log deadline from March 31st to April 30th. Awarding tickets will also be extended from April 15th to May 15th.   Thank you!  Silverwood Read 2 Ride and KMS Library Staff.

KMS Library Class

Please join the KMS Library class using code fwbqalc, When logged in to your sd5 account, go to classrooms.google.com and click the Plus Sign at the top right. Click "join a class" and then put in this class code: fwbqalc   We will have book discussions, social media tags, reading challenges, and if this lasts too long, I will probably do some reading aloud. Let's engage with our reading during our social distancing time!

Custodial Information

Starting this week, the custodial crew will start a deep cleaning process. We will be cleaning as a team to be more efficient and to ensure it gets done.  As soon as the room is cleaned, we will go back through the room to disinfect with a Protexus Electrostatic Spraying System.  We will be deep cleaning the entire school and disinfecting with extra detail.  Disinfectant bottles will be distributed with some rags for the classrooms.  This is just one extra preventive measure for staff to have if a situation occurs.  We should have the entire school disinfected by the end of the week.  We are just taking extra precautions to ensure that we do what we can to help slow this virus down and protect the safety of the staff, students and public.  We take great pride of the work of the KMS custodial crew and are grateful for their service.
