KALISPELL, MT – In partnership with Kalispell Public Schools, Kalispell Education Foundation (KEF) was proud to surprise the 2025 High School Educator of the Year recipient Kelli Higgins during a school-wide assembly on Friday.
Ms. Higgins - who leads Flathead High School's International Baccalaureate Program - was recognized for her exceptional dedication to students and her unwavering commitment to excellence in education. She is celebrated by students, families, and colleagues for creating a classroom environment rooted in respect, dignity, and genuine care.
“The opportunity to support someone as they strive for their dreams is such a gift and that’s what I get to do every day, surrounded by incredible students and teachers. I’m so grateful to be a part of this wonderful community," said Ms. Higgins.
Parents describe her as "a magician" who inspires students to reach high expectations because they do not want to let her down. Students shared that even if they struggle with reading or writing in other subjects, they are motivated to do their best in her class because she makes learning meaningful, challenging, and enjoyable.
The impact of her teaching extends far beyond daily lessons. Students noted that she helps them grow as writers, thinkers, and human beings by introducing new perspectives and fostering a supportive learning community.
Colleagues describe her as compassionate, steady, and deeply committed to both her department and the entire school. One colleague shared that she "exemplifies every aspect of the Learner Profile" and models the Flathead Way with kindness, professionalism, and a strong belief in every student's potential.
“This year’s recipient is particularly meaningful to me. Kelli was my debate coach when I attended Flathead, and the sentiments students shared in their nominations this year were as true during my time as they are now," said Dorothy Drury, Executive Director of KEF, and FHS '02 alum. "It’s really special to be able to honor someone who made such an impact on me and my peers. Congratulations, Kelli!"
This year's award process was managed by the KEF student board, which includes Naomi Miller and Hudson Capser of Flathead High School, as well as Josh Lee and Myla Lamson of Glacier High School.
KEF is honored to recognize Ms. Higgins as a shining example of excellence in education. Her dedication, innovation, and genuine care for her students embody the very heart of what it means to be an outstanding educator.
Ms. Higgins received a $1,000 grant for her classroom and a $250 personal award, generously provided by Stockman Bank.
