KPS Partners with Talos Security, Kalispell Police Department to Strengthen Campus Safety

KALISPELL, MT. – Kalispell Public Schools signed a contract with Talos Security on Tuesday, January 13, to provide an additional layer of security presence across all district campuses, strengthening ongoing partnerships with the Kalispell Police Department to ensure safe learning environments for students and staff.

The contract with Talos Security enables the district to deploy professional security personnel at any of its 12 schools, providing both regular patrols and event coverage as needed. The arrangement offers flexibility while delivering consistent, visible security presence throughout the district.

“Given the uncertainties of our time, we believe it's essential to take all proactive steps we think are necessary to maintain safe, secure learning environments,” said Superintendent Matt Jensen. “This partnership with Talos Security represents an additional measure to further protect our schools and student safety.”

The enhanced security approach complements an existing partnership with the Kalispell Police Department, which will also increase visible presence in school neighborhoods and around campuses through vehicle and foot patrols.

“The Kalispell Police Department remains the primary law enforcement partner for safety in our schools, and that role does not change,” said Police Chief Jordan Venezio. “At the same time, KPD recognizes that school safety is a shared responsibility. We support School District 5’s use of private security as part of a layered approach to safety, and welcome any assistance that helps create a secure learning environment for students in Kalispell. When everyone works together, our schools are safer.”The district chose to contract with Talos Security, founded by 2005 Flathead High School graduates Brad Timmons and James Hatton, rather than creating a district-funded security position, allowing greater operational flexibility and expertise. Talos currently works with businesses in downtown Kalispell and across the Flathead Valley, which also allows them to seamlessly transition to working with KPS.

Proactive Commitment to Student Safety

Superintendent Jensen emphasizes that these partnerships reflect a proactive approach to safeguarding our schools rather than a reaction to specific situations.

“There is nothing more humbling than to be entrusted with the wellbeing of children in our community, and we are focused on maintaining safety without altering or impacting the welcoming nature of our schools and classrooms,” Jensen said. “Our commitment is clear: we are doing everything we can and adapting as needed to ensure the safety of our staff and students. We have incredible things happening in our schools, and this effort is about being intentional in our approach to creating environments where learning, growth, and opportunity can continue to thrive without threat or distraction.”
