Celebrating Essential School Personnel of the Year

Kalispell, MT — The Kalispell Education Foundation (KEF), in partnership with Stockman Bank, is proud to recognize three outstanding essential personnel in Kalispell Public Schools (KPS): Teresa Hartford at Edgerton Elementary, Kim Lalum at Peterson Elementary, and Sandy Weeks at the Vo-Ag Center.

Each recipient received their award of $250, courtesy of Stockman Bank, during surprise visits to their schools on Friday, February 28.

"Our community appreciates the hard work of KPS essential staff and we are so excited to be able to highlight and honor them this year," said Dorothy Drury, KEF Executive Director. "These incredible individuals work tirelessly outside of the classroom and exemplify the dedication, care, and commitment that make our public schools outstanding communities.

KEF, KPS, and Stockman Bank collaborate annually to recognize essential school personnel — those who work behind the scenes to ensure our schools run smoothly every day.

Nearly 150 nominations poured in from parents, students, teachers, and community members, underscoring the profound impact these staff members have on students and schools. The recipients were selected by the Kalispell Education Foundation Student Board, composed of four volunteer students from KPS high schools. This year's board includes Vincent Lam (FHS), Naomi Miller (FHS), Gabrielle Crozier (GHS) and Creed Wiley (GHS).

Teresa Hartford – Edgerton Elementary

Teresa Hartford is known for her welcoming demeanor, exceptional organization, and warm presence. Parents and students alike admire her ability to greet everyone with a smile and maintain a cheerful, positive attitude every day.

As one nominator put it, “Teresa personally knows and cares for every single child and adult in our school! She miraculously oversees EVERYTHING going on at Edgerton, yet still finds time to make us sourdough bread, put a band-aid on a chin, or deliver a package she knows you’ve been anticipating.”

Another shared, “Mrs. Hartford is the central nervous system of Edgerton. If it is vital to Edgerton in any way, you can rest assured she had her hand in its success.”

Kim Lalum – Peterson Elementary

Kim Lalum is an invaluable member of Peterson Elementary, known for her unwavering dedication and versatility. She has stepped into various roles—including office manager, reading interventionist, and even classroom teacher—always with a positive attitude.

A colleague noted, “Kim literally wakes up every day not knowing what she’ll be doing, and not once have I heard her complain.” She is a patient and compassionate educator, particularly in working with students who struggle academically.

Another nominator shared, “Kim not only does everything asked of her with a happy heart, but she goes above and beyond. She works hard at what is expected and then always surprises me by taking initiative and going the extra mile.”

Sandy Weeks – Vo-Ag Center

Sandy Weeks is a cornerstone of the Vo-Ag Center, providing steadfast support and encouragement to students.

One student shared, “She is really nice and understanding, and she is always there to help and answer any questions.”

Another heartfelt nomination highlighted her impact: “Sandy Weeks has tremendously impacted my life. She is one of the most kindhearted and well-meaning women I know. She always picks me up on my bad days and gives me the best advice. Of course, her chocolate jar helps too! She gave me the courage and strength to reach out for help when I needed it. She truly deserves this recognition.”

These incredible individuals exemplify the dedication, care, and commitment that make Kalispell Public Schools an outstanding community. The Kalispell Education Foundation is grateful to Stockman Bank for their continued support in recognizing and celebrating the exceptional contributions of KPS staff members and their impact on their students and community.
