We are dedicated to supporting every learner through inclusive practices, collaborative problem-solving, and a strong commitment to student growth. Our team—including special education teachers, related service providers, and paraeducators—works to ensure students with diverse abilities are learning in environments where they can thrive.
The Special Services Department is committed to actively engaging in team meetings, advocating for student-centered supports, and approaching all obstacles and challenges with a growth mindset. Our broad goals are to:

Cultivate authentic and enduring connections with students, families, and colleagues by fostering continuous, transparent dialogue and collaboration.

Collect and evaluate data concerning departmental strengths, obstacles, and requirements.

Guarantee fair and transparent distribution of resources.

Support transition planning and implementation for each student from beginning of special education process through post-school objectives.

All students will grow and thrive through student agency and innovative instruction to build life-long independence.
We oversee a wide range of programs and services designed to meet the diverse needs of students across our district, including:

Special Education Services for students ages 3–21, including individualized education programs (IEPs) and related services

Section 504 Plans for students needing accommodations due to a disability

McKinney-Vento Services for students experiencing homelessness

Multilingual Learner Support, including English language development and family engagement

Early Childhood Special Education and Child Find evaluations

Transition Services to support students with disabilities as they prepare for life after high school

Service Plans for eligible students in private or homeschool settings
In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004, Kalispell Public Schools actively participates in Child Find efforts to locate, evaluate, and identify all children from birth through 21 years of age with disabilities.

Notice Regarding Special Education Records
All special education records will be securely shredded five years after a student graduates or exits special education services, whichever comes first, typically in August each year. If you wish to obtain a copy of these records before they are destroyed, please contact the Special Services Department.
