IB: Reflections

Reflections on IB at Flathead High School from our 2012 Alumni

  • “IB helped prepare me for a full course load in college. The skills that I developed in IB, such as note-taking, time management, critical reading, and essay-writing have all been extremely valuable to me in my classes.”  2012 FHS IB Graduate
  • “In my classes I have noticed that IB prepared me on many planes including time management, depth of course material, studying habits, and most importantly researching and writing practices. Throughout my courses, which range from writing to biology, I have found that I have approached the curriculum with the hopes of gaining deeper insight into the core issues we have been discussing. Not only has IB taught me how to manage my time to succeed on materials in class and on college exams, but it broadened my perspective to be able to establish the connections between departments that have deepened my learning and enjoyment in college greatly.”  2012 FHS IB Graduate
  • “I feel that the IB Pogramme at Flathead High School offers students a highly supportive environment to see learning as a dynamic process instead of static experience. While the knowledge, the passion, and the skills that the IB Programme at FHS gives its students, the greatest benefit to students is the long-lasting mindset that you develop when approaching learning. Learning is a collaborative, an inquisitive, a creative, and a passionate pursuit that the interdisciplinary nature of the IB Programme at FHS gives its students. Without the excellent and dedicated teachers, however, this perspective on learning would not have been possible either. All in all, the faculty, the supportive learning environment is the perfect combination to get students geared up in spirit to conquer the higher levels of the academic world.”  2012 FHS IB Graduate
  • The IB way of thinking prepared me very well for college philosophy classes and for college in general. In the IB Programme, I also became a very proficient note-taker, which has been invaluable in keeping up with the high level of information college classes present. Of special note is my experience with IB Biology: I have found that my lab skills are very useful for my college labs, and allow me to do what would be a four-hour lab in two to three hours. Apart from that, having an IB Diploma gives me the confidence I need to go out and achieve greatly in the college environment.  2012 FHS IB Graduate
