Closures, Delays, and Remote Learning

During weather related events, KPS works with the National Weather Service, Flathead County Road Department and Kalispell City Road Department to get the most accurate information. Road conditions, visibility, temperatures, and weather forecasts are all evaluated before making decisions.

Communicating with the Community

Families and staff will receive mass communication no later than 6:00 a.m. directly from KPS regarding school closures or delayed starts:

  • Text Message
  • Phone Call
  • Email
  • Social Media
  • District Website

Safety is always our top priority and we appreciate your cooperation during school closures or late starts during the school year.

Modified Schedules

School Closure

  • Families and staff will receive mass communication no later than 6:00 a.m. directly from KPS regarding school closures or delayed starts
  • We will notify families promptly via text, email, and our website. Updates will also be posted on the KPS Facebook page.
  • Please rely only on official communication channels for accurate information.
  • Student make-up days may be necessary and will be determined by the KPS Board of Trustees.
  • Partner districts may choose to align with KPS closures but retain the option to remain open or set their own schedules.

Two-Hour Late Start

  • A Two-Hour Late Start means all schedules, including school start times, bus pick-up times, and other routines, will begin two hours later than usual. Schools will still dismiss at their regular times.

Remote Learning

  • If we move to remote instruction, teachers will be ready to connect remotely with students via email, Google Classroom, or other platforms to assign work.
  • If you are unsure of your student’s responsibilities or do not have sufficient internet access during a remote learning day, please contact their teacher or building administrator.
